  This is just the germ of a thought which has just come to me, so it may not make sense.

Consider the distinction between what is given away which seems to cause loss and that which is given away which only produces gain.

Giving away fearful thoughts produces fearful thoughts, but giving away loving thoughts produces loving thoughts.
